Tonight we were going to have people over for dinner but that ended up falling through. My dad and I took this as a sign that we needed to go fishing. After work I met up with him and we headed down to our favorite spot. We were surprised to find almost no one there. We both thought that on a beautiful Friday evening in the heart of salmon season it would be packed. We figured that just meant there were more fish out there for us to catch. We saw one or two jump but there weren't a lot of signs that fish were in the area. That didn't really worry us, especially when 5 minutes into it we got a REALLY strong sign that there were fish there in the form of my dad setting the hook into a really solid pink salmon. It put up a strong fight with a solid run right off the bat. It then turned and started coming toward us. My dad made sure it didn't stop and had it on the beach pretty quickly.
A few minutes later a cruise ship went by and we soon started to get hit by the swells that it caused. I had just cast but took my attention off my lure for a few seconds to get farther up on the beach so I didn't get knocked off my feet by the swells. I all of a sudden realized that I had a fish on. It was strange in that I never felt it hit. I just all of a sudden had it on. I of course turned my attention to the fish and forgot about getting away from the swells. I got hit by some pretty big ones but managed to stay on my feet. The fish put up a good fight and after a few minutes I had it on the beach.
We caught both our fish within the first 30 minutes of being there and didn't get another bite the rest of the evening. All in all a really enjoyable evening looking at the beauty of God's creation, being blessed with catching a few fish, and just spending time with my dad.
