Early Season Salmon Fishing Success

Last night I went salmon fishing for the first time this season.  It is still really early in the season but I figured I would go anyways.  As my dad has always told me, "You can't catch fish without your line in the water!"  I had one bit pretty early on and I was a bit surprised and then about 15 minutes later I had a HUGE strike and the drag on my reel started singing.  Right as I called "Fish on!", my little sister yelled the same and I looked over and her rod was doubled over.  I quickly turned my attention back to my fish though because this was turning out to be the hardest fighting pink salmon I have ever tangled with.  It was giving long strong runs to a degree I have never seen come from a pink salmon before.  Unfortunately the fish my sister had on managed to get off the hook.  I fought mine for several more minutes often times getting it right up to the beach.  Every time, just before we could net it, this feisty fish would take off on another reel screaming run. Finally I tired it out sufficiently and we managed to get it on the beach.  It weighed just over 5 lbs and was 25 inches long.
