The last few months have brought some big changes in my life. The Lord led me to join the United States Coast Guard and I am now a few months into my first tour of duty. The Coast Guard moved me pretty far from my home to a part of the United States I had never been before. While I didn't enjoy having to say goodbye to my family and friends, I was glad to be able to serve my country and see a new place.
Being an avid outdoorsman I was happy to learn that the cutter I was getting stationed on was on a lake that was chalk full of fish. I was told they had a few different kinds of bass, catfish, buffalo, bluegill, crappie, long-nosed gar, carp, etc. I was excited about all of them but especially the bass! I had never caught one before but had always heard they were an incredible fish to catch. When I reported to my cutter it was still a bit cold for good bass fishing but I was able to catch a few catfish.
These last few weeks the temperatures have risen and I have now been having great success on bass. I have been averaging 3-4 bass a night and am having so much fun catching them! I LOVE how they don't mess around when they bite. They don't nibble, they smash the lure like it owes them money and then fight with an incredible amount of energy for the size they are. It is like hooking a stick of dynamite when they are on the line. Most of them are 1-2 lbs. but I have caught a few 3-4 pounders and one that was 5+ lbs. I am really enjoying being able to regularly catch bass here at my new home.
